Stress in the workplace is on the increase. It is accepted that we all need some pressure in our working lives so that our work remains satisfying and so that deadlines and tasks are achieved. Too much pressure however, without the chance to recover, can lead to stress. When stress affects employees, the result is usually a dramatic fall in performance and productivity, a lack of motivation and morale and increased absence as a result of sick leave. Furthermore, the cost of stress to businesses is immense, which is why employers can no longer afford to turn a blind eye to stress related issues in the workplace. Dealing with stress related issues fairly, reasonably, respectfully and sensitively, is not only good for business- it also helps your organisation stay away from falling foul of costly litigation if a claim is pursued by a employee at an employment tribunal.
