A hierarchical structure will always require some managers to be responsible for managing multiple locations. In the vast majority of cases, this will involve managing the designated managers in multiple locations, however sometimes may even involve directly managing multiple teams in multiple locations. When an organisation has multiple locations, it is already vulnerable to a range of external threats. Managing a team of people in a single location is challenging enough, so it is inevitable that managing people across multiple sites will be exponentially more difficult. Having multiple locations however offers unparalleled benefits to organisations, and opportunities for growth that simply may not be possible in one location. Get it right, and having multiple locations will only enhance the productivity and profitability of the organisation.
