Research has found that dealing with conflict is one of the primary areas of avoidance amongst managers. Conflict is a difficult issue to deal with, and there is fear amongst managers that if they attempt to manage conflict, it will affect their own morale and motivation. When there is no open conflict, there is a tendency just to get on with work as usual. Yet conflict can be so destructive when not addressed that it is like a cancer that has the power to tear down an organisation from within. 

By effectively managing conflict, an organisation will prevent violence, give employees a sense of safety; a feeling that the organisation is appropriately exercising its duty of care over their well being as well as protecting the organisation from potential compensation claims. Most importantly, managing conflict will ensure that motivation, morale and productivity remains high, allowing the organisation to focus on delivering its products and services.
