About this course

This one day programme will help managers become familiar with all types of unlawful discrimination, providing practical guidance on what managers should do in order to ensure that they comply with the law.

The course begins by examining the scope and structure of the Equality Act 2010. The Equality Act came into effect in October 2010. It replaces previous legislation (such as the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) and ensures consistency in what needs to happen to make a fair working environment and to comply with the law. It will explore the purpose of the Act, types of discrimination that are covered, the Protected Charactersitics and how to apply the Act from both an employer and employee perspective – the devil is in the detail.

Delegates will then learn about Employer Vicarious Liability in cases of discrimination and the Employment Tribunal implication in terms of the timescales involved, the burden of proof and the compensatory awards.

This course will benefit any new line manager who is being exposed to employment law for the first time or it will also serve as a refresher to existing line managers. It is also suitable HR professionals acting in a supporting role to line managers.
