Chairing effective meetings

Chairing meetings is easy. Chairing meetings well is very hard. People arriving late, documents being forgotten and a lack of preparation are synonymous with meetings. The chair or facilitator of a meeting has to deal with disruption, a lack of respect for other participants, discussions digressing onto irrelevant tangents and a failure to follow a structure and the rules of the meeting. Meetings can however be productive, but whether this happens is almost entirely dependent on the ability of the chair to control the meeting. In an age where time is money, having a person with the right skills to chair a meeting can save organisations many thousands and significantly increase profits.
