Lean Management

Lean Management

There is a common misconception that Lean Management is suited only for the manufacturing sector. This could not be further from the truth. Lean is about maximising customer value whilst minimising waste. In simplistic terms this means creating more value for customers with fewer resources and this is relevant for what ever business, industry or sector that your organisation operates in.

An organisation that applies Lean processes is one that firstly understands customer value and then focuses on developing and enhancing its processes so that it can continue to increase value whilst at the same time eliminating waste. To do this, organisations must change the focus of management from optimising separate technologies, assets, and vertical departments to optimising the flow of products and services through entire value streams that flow horizontally across technologies, assets, and departments to customers.

The focus of Lean is to eliminate waste along entire value streams, instead of at isolated points. It is about creating processes which require less space and less capital. It is about less time and effort to make products and services at lower costs and with far fewer defects. Lean also helps information management become simpler and more accurate.
