Stage 4: Reflections and Development

Stage 4: Reflections and Development

Real learning does not take place as a result of experiences or knowledge of skills and theory and training on its own is insufficient to effect real change. Real change only occurs when behaviours change. For behaviours to change, individuals must reflect on their experiences and use their knowledge of theory to identify their development needs. It is only through reflection and self-realisation that learning potential can be capitalised on.

Reflections

Participants on the Leadership Development Programme will develop their understanding and ability of effective reflections throughout the course of the programme. They will learn:

  •  Various techniques to enable self analysis and introspection
  • How to be critical of themselves without loosing their self confidence
  • Techniques to evaluate their attitudes and behaviours
  • How to be honest with themselves and prevent covering up or “smoothing over” their inefficiencies
  •  How to develop their behaviours and attitudes as a result of the self discoveries from their reflections

Every day of the programme will commence with a few minutes set aside for reflections of the previous day. Participants will be encouraged to share their reflections, and our facilitators will help them probe and question their comments to ensure that their reflections are not clouded in anyway whatsoever.

Development and coaching

Whilst reflections are an invaluable method of continuous self-development, an individual will never be able to fully appreciate the impact of their behaviours and attitudes as effectively as a third party. Coaching is a process that assists an individual to explore and structure their thoughts to enable real development.

Firovia consultants are both expert coaches as well as experts on human behaviour. As part of the Leadership Development Programme, every participant will be entitled to a number of coaching sessions to support their on going development. Our coaches will:

  • Help individual’s to explore their needs, motivations, desires, skills and thought processes.
  • Use questioning techniques to help individual’s structure their thoughts and identify solutions and actions
  • Support individual’s to set appropriate goals and methods of assessing progress in relation to these goals
  • Observe, listen and ask questions to understand the individual’s situation
  • Encourage a commitment to action and the development of lasting personal growth & change.
  • Maintain an unconditional, positive and supportive state whilst remaining non-judgemental of the individual they are coaching, their views, lifestyle and aspirations.
  • Ensure that the individual being coached develops personal competencies and does not develop an unhealthy dependency on their coach
