Models of teams are changing, and in todays competitive market place many organisations are using matrix teams to be able to share resources faster and more effectively across projects and the organisation. A matrix team involves different people who have different lines of reporting for different projects. Matrix teams include work groups, cross-functional teams, task forces and special project teams and are normally composed of a small number of people from different departments and functions. The shift from the traditional team management model requires managers that posses the most up to date skills and knowledge to be able to get the most productivity out of a matrix team
